Massive Attack are a trip-hop band formed in Bristol, England in 1988. The 3 original members of the band, Grand 'Daddy G' Marshall, Andy 'Mushroom' Vowles and Robert '3D' Del Naja, all come from Bristol street backgrounds. Originally members of the band 'The Wild Bunch', the 3 members decided to form their new band 'Massive attack' after the departure of Milo Johnson and Nellee Hooper. Trip -hop is a genre of music which combines elements of hip-hop and dub reggae at a slow tempo based on slow dancing.

Blue Lines

Blue lines was the debut album of trip-hop band Massive attack and was released on 8th April 1991 under the label of Virgin Records. The album was recently remastered in 2012 but still included all of the songs on the original album. It has since been recollected as being the first 'trip-hop' album ever produced and was the catalyst for future trip-hop artists. The album went to number 13 in the UK charts and later became double platinum.

Unfinished sympathy

Although the songs was made by the 3 members of Massive attack, Daddy G, 3D and Mushroom, the band used the vocals of Shara Nelson. It was the band's second single and was included on their debut album, Blue lines. The song is very typical of the band, as it uses many percussion and drum samples along with strong vocals. The music video that accompanied Unfinished Sympathy has become iconic, with it mainly just being Shara Nelson walking down a busy street in Los Angeles. In the video, a long continuous shot is used to show the continual walking down the street, with many things happening in the background behind Shara Nelson. The use of non actors give the video a great sense of realism.
