Teenagers in the media

Teenager consuming drugs

Teenagers in the media

In this image, a teenager is represented as being delinquent due to his acceptance of drugs, an illegal substance which demands heavy consequences if found in possession. Furthermore, the teenagers facial expressions give off an impression of disregard for his illegal actions. Overall, the article in which this picture appears does not identify the teenagers as guilty but do suggest that they have the capabilities to buy and sell drugs without any force from the police and the law. Stereo-typically, teenagers are renowned for being difficult to control and easily influenced, therefore the article does promote these stereo-typical views. I believe this to be an unfair representation of teenagers as the use of drugs does not apply for the majority of teenagers, and is also a crime which is very common in adults. The target audience for this online article would be parents as it serves as a warning to them of the trouble their teenage children might get into if they are not protected.

Teenager guilty of murder
In the second image, an 18 year old teenager is shown to be guilty of murder, indicating the view of the teenager being cynical. Moreover, the teenager is shown to have an inconsiderate and sceptical expression, leading to him appearing to the reader as untrustworthy and perhaps even lethal. All in all, the teenage is presented in the article in a harsh, although there is a founded reason why the teenager is being treated in such savage ways. I believe this article on this teenage murderer to be a counter-stereotype to do usual teenage characters portrayed in the media. It is unfair for common teenagers to be portrayed in the same ways as this very bad example, therefore I believe to be harming to the image of teenagers in the UK.

In this 3rd image, a gang of delinquent teenagers terrorising a man and his canal boat. In the article the teenagers are described in the extremely negative way as being 'thugs', indicated by their throwing of stones at innocent people and their property. This immediately gives the impression that the teenagers behaviour is bad and should not be supported, as the image sends off a very negative view towards teenagers. The use of blurring of the face, something that is commonly used on criminals in pictures and videos, clearly gives another indication that these teenagers are behaving badly
